One of them was the year-old Che Guevara. Written eight years before the Cuban Revolution, these are Che's diaries - full of disasters and discoveries, high drama, low comedy and laddish improvisations.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you? The end when he re-connected with his long-suffering riding partner. Any additional comments? It's worth a listen. It won't change your world, but it will entertain you.

I really enjoyed the story and the humor of the book.

  7. I was looking for something more interesting and was somewhat disappointed. I found the writing to be too "wordy" in parts, like the author was trying too hard. And the fact that the 2 travellers were constantly bickering took away from "the adventure" and made me realize that one really has to find a compatible travel partner to really enjoy a road trip. I got the distinct feeling that the author didn't really enjoy the trip much and just wanted to get it over with like it was a chore, or maybe something to check off his "bucket list".

I like this book. It was a great one, as I contemplate my own first long ride someday. The only draw back was the lack of mention of the daily routine of maintenance, breakdowns and challenges in the machines.

Around the world on Motorcycles. Canada to Panama Part 3 of 6

Unless the machines were flawless I find most readers would prefer a bit more interaction with the aspect of the machinery and the challenges or pitfalls associated with them along the journey. That is my input as a frequent rider that would have preferred a bit more "shop talk". A good lighthearted read or listen.

I have listened to many many adventure motorcycle books and this one by far was the worst. It makes me want to throw away my motorcycle adventure plans and sell my bike Out of fear of dying of boredom. I am sure his trip was more of an adventure than this book alludes to. It was read as monotone and lifeless as possible. You can't stop listening with the hopes it must get better.

Never does. Sorry for the bad review but maybe it will help with your future documented trips. While the author did a good job adding some excitement with his narration, the story was a bit lacking and in some ways unappealing. As a motorcycle rider who has done a larger version of his same trip solo I could see what he was trying to portray, but only because I had ridden many of the same tracks.

For me it was the latent homophobia that lurked just below the surface in many parts of the book and the treatment of women as objects in his writing that kept pulling me from the story.
